Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Win Anime of The Year Award at TAAF, 2022

Jujustu Kaisen

It’s the start of the year and the anime industry is back to award the best anime in various categories. The start of the year spawns several award shows, each with prestigious titles. 2021 was a year of several brilliant anime that earned the title of the best for their achievements. As anime fans, it’s always fun to cheer on our favorite shows and hope this one wins. For those who didn’t know, the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2022 was recently celebrated. Several anime series took home prestigious awards on their backs. This includes categories like Best Director, Best Music, and even Best Student Film. After the announcement in October 2021, it’s really exciting to know that the results of the anime awards have finally been announced.

TAAF is considered one of the most honorable awards for animation projects. This year’s anime awards ceremony nominated multiple successful projects, each with a decent shot at winning the prestigious Anime of the Year award. While we strongly believe that all titles have been won by deserving candidates, it is an undeniable fact that all the nominated projects came about brilliantly and reflected the hard work and efforts of those involved. However, there could only be two winners for the Anime of the Year award and one for the rest.

As another prestigious awards ceremony draws to a close, we celebrate the winning and shortlisted parties and look forward to getting to know all the projects.

Tokyo Anime Award Festival, 2022

The Tokyo Anime Award Festival, abbreviated to TAAF, is a highly prestigious international awards ceremony. It rewards projects that excel in animation. It is held annually around this time of year in Japan. The ceremony is organized by the Association of Japanese Animations and the TAAF Executive Committee. It is also in partnership with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The main goal of TAAF is to recognize and rate original animation projects from all over the world based on animation quality and originality. The official board also claims that it wants to promote good animation works to the public and motivate more creators to come forward. Animation projects that will be judged during the awards ceremony are those released from December 1 to November 30.

The first Tokyo Anime Award took place in 2002 and 2005, the ceremony was given the name it bears today. It wasn’t until 2005 that the ceremony was recognized as a fully functioning awards ceremony. However, in 2014 it became the official Tokyo Anime Awards festival as we know it today after Tokyo International Anime Fair merged with Anime Contents Expo.

Over the past two decades, TAAF has managed to maintain its reputation. Each year, the award feature brings forth outstanding animation productions that show the depth of animated works. The ceremony is back with more to celebrate and we’re already looking forward to it.

Anime of the Year – 2022

When it comes to TAAF, everyone is waiting for the anime of the year announcement. Without bias, the most deserving anime will be chosen as the winner. For 2022, the Anime of the Year award in the Tokyo Anime Award Function is won by Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time in the Movie category and Jujutsu Kaisen in the Television category. Given the huge success of both media in the previous year, it comes as no surprise. The two anime won the title after being judged among 446 candidates released between December 2020 and November 2021.
